INTERNAL FAMILY SYSTEMS

INTERNAL FAMILY SYSTEMS

  • Developed by Richard Schwartz, IFS helps people understand the different “parts” of their inner world, such as the inner critic, protectors, and wounded younger parts.

  • Many struggles, including shame, compulsive behaviours, and relationship difficulties, are driven by parts that developed to cope with earlier life experiences.

  • Rather than fighting these parts, IFS helps people approach them with curiosity, compassion, and understanding.

  • Clients learn to access their core Self—a place of calm, clarity, confidence, and compassion—from which healing can occur.

  • IFS helps reduce shame and inner conflict, supporting lasting change in trauma, relationships, and compulsive patterns.

SOMATIC EXPERIENCING®

  • Somatic Experiencing (SE™) aims to resolve symptoms of stress, shock, and trauma that accumulate in our bodies.

  • Somatic Experiencing was founded and developed by Dr. Peter Levine

  • When we are stuck in patterns of fight, flight, or freeze, SE helps us release, recover, and become more resilient.

  • It is a body-oriented therapeutic model applied in multiple professions and professional settings—psychotherapy, medicine, coaching, teaching, and physical therapy—for healing trauma and other stress disorders.

  • It is based on a multidisciplinary intersection of physiology, psychology, ethology, biology, neuroscience, indigenous healing practices, and medical biophysics and has been clinically applied for more than four decades.
